Willis Eugene “Bud” Baker, 94, Oblong, IL passed away at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. Born on May 27, 1921, in Jasper County, IL, in the Yale area, he was the son of Willis Earl Baker and Lula Ann (Terrell) Baker. On December 24, 1941 he married Ethel Maydean Calvert and she preceded him in death.
Eugene farmed for 29 years and was an employee with Marathon Oil Company in the production department for over 34 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the White Oak Christian Church, rural Oblong, IL. Eugene’s mother died when he was three and he was raised by his step mother Rebecca Winters. Eugene loved to travel. He and Maydean traveled to all 48 states and half of Canada. He and Maydean enjoyed yearly trips to Branson, MO.
Eugene is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law Sandy and Kent Funkhouser, St. Louis, MO; and Metta Baker, St.Louis, MO; a grandson and spouse Chad and Margo Funkhouser, St. Louis, MO; two great-granddaughters Katie and Libby Funkhouser, St. Louis, MO.
Preceding Eugene in death were his parents; his wife; three brothers: Fred, Donald T. and Lorenus E. Baker; seven sisters: Nancy Geneva Perkins, Lucy Katherine Perkins, Ruth Adeline Calvert, Myrtle Sinclair Renchen, Clora May Wiley, Susie Dart Wilson and Anna Eva Griffin; and one half sister Dorothy Wiman.
